Please check the above menu links under Ukraine Crisis
These links provide all the latest information from the UK Government on the ‘Homes for Ukraine’ initiative. It is recognised that people are looking for help and guidance to ensure that they can host people safely and effectively. Local Cornwall Council efforts are in hand to support all those involved, whether that be those taking refugees into their homes, or helping the refugees integrate into our communities.

For people hoping to welcome Ukraine refugees to their homes there is also a very active Facebook page run by the Launceston/Ukrainian community group

LRSG will endeavour to keep people informed about the latest developments in the ‘Homes for Ukraine’ initiative as they become available.

For all the latest news and level of support we can currently offer people who are anxious to help during the current Ukraine refugee crisis please check our Facebook page.

Sunflower Saturdays
We are a small group of qualified, experienced teachers setting up a morning for Ukrainians of all ages, new to the Launceston area. We hope this will enable both children and adults to get together for friendship and support with high quality creative, educational and, if possible, therapeutic activities on offer.

We will be based in a primary school so that we can offer a professional and safe environment with classrooms, laptops and space for dance, yoga, art and outdoor play. This will take place on Saturday mornings, starting on the 30th of April.

We are meeting this Friday, 22nd April at 10am at a school near Launceston (TBC) for a very informal session of about an hour, so that any Ukrainians already here can meet each other, let us know a bit about themselves and what they’d like from these sessions.

Full details etc. are available here

The Launceston Refugee Support Group  (LRSG - UK registered charity 1178812)
will be hosting an open meeting in the Central Methodist Church Hall, next Tuesday evening

6 September from 7.30pm

If you are interested you are most welcome to come and learn about the charities work in Launceston and Cornwall

About LRSG

LRSG is a group of local people getting together to take action in support of refugees displaced by conflict and those on the roads or in camps across Europe. We also endeavour to support those resettling here in our area.

We have been inspired by the desperate situation of refugees but also by the success of Bude Refugee Support Group and other groups in Cornwall providing a community response to the situation.

The charitable aims for LRSG are to relieve financial hardship for those seeking refuge from conflict in Europe, the Middle East, the North Africa region and those granted refugee status and their dependents living in Cornwall and Launceston in particular.

  • These aims will be achieved by building local networks, and helping in the work being done to collect, sort and dispatch useful items to stranded refugees, especially those in Europe looking to reach the UK and those arriving across the Mediterranean.
  • We will continue to work towards welcoming families to Launceston, as part of the government’s pledge to resettle some of the most vulnerable refugees in the UK.

We started in February 2017, in June 2018 we achieved charitable status, in July 2019 we welcomed the first resettled Syrian family in Launceston working closely with Cornwall Council under a "hybrid" version of the VPRS which we have developed for our situation where the council support is too remote for them to fully manage the scheme.
