In a fast-changing situation we will try hard to ensure that this website gives you the latest news on how to help with the crisis caused by the war in Ukraine. LRSG Update 27th May 2022

2022 has proved a very significant year for anyone whose life has been disturbed or affected by the term 'refugee' as the dreadful invasion of Ukraine has changed what we do and how we react.

Since 24th February we have become involved with the local and national initiatives to welcome Ukrainian refugees to our country, our town, our homes. Much of the emphasis of our work has changed, and a new generation of kind and generous people has emerged. As a charity we have been involved in collecting donations, organising transport of those to refugees in Central Europe, as well as supporting the work of those working closely with the 77 sponsored families already living in or near Launceston.

Our connection with the Syrian family who settled here in 2019 remains strong, and they continue to develop their lives in their new, adopted country. Mohammad and his family are well.

Our advice to support refugees from Ukraine most effectively is to please donate money to one of the established charities working directly with refugees in Central Europe. Our charity has donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee https://www.dec.org.uk
